"Kokopelli" is a well-equipped Hylas 46 2-Cabin, 2-Head layout that is truly turnkey and ready to cruise the world!

Designed by the legendary German Frers the Hylas 46 is an exceptional long distance world cruiser with safety, comfort and fast passages built solidly into her DNA.  She is setup with large tankage, Watermaker, lots of solar panels, ease of sail control and exceptional ground tackle.

In 2014-16 she received a comprehensive update before the previous owners' cruise through the Panama Canal, to the South Pacific and up to the Pacific Northwest. During this update, the experienced owners focused on safety and real-world comfort at sea. Chainplates aft for a series drogue and a currently certified liferaft are but examples of the safety equipment. The owners also installed a new mast and boom furler in 2016 with all new standing and running rigging replaced at that time.  All new sails were built as well.

Most importantly, the sailing systems have been refined so that there is no need to go forward when shortening or increasing sail. The triple-headsail rig, with all sails on furlers, makes logging the miles easy. The in-boom furling has made reefing a simple and safe task. Kokopelli is a rare find. Not only is she a well-known and proven model, but she’s also been prepared, maintained and equipped for serious long-term cruising.

Owner's Notes

Things that make Kokopelli a joy to cruise for the whole family:

·      3-zone thermostat-controlled heating throughout.  Keeps the boat dry and comfortable year-round. Just flip the switch on and the boat and hot water tank heats up quickly.

·      The Everhot water heater ensured we had all the hot water we needed at any time.

·      Hot showers off the sugar scoop stern were awesome, which kept the crew clean and below decks dry!

·      The top-of-the-line Iversons dodger protected the crew from strong winds, rain and spray through crystal clear windows and was admired by many.

·      Brand new custom queen mattress.  This is not an uncomfortable boat cushion.  We sleep better on this mattress than the one we have at home!

·      1000 watts of solar coupled with the robust house battery system runs the refrigeration, freezer, water maker and all other systems easily without needing to run the engine. We never had power issues while many other cruisers struggled.

·      The compostable toilet makes you legal in all areas and extends the time between nasty pump outs.

·      Super low-profile Wi-Fi Frame TV can link to the chart-plotter, phones, or any other device.  When offshore we could sneak below to make a hot cup of tea while still keeping an eye on our course.  The frame picture option was fun too choosing between pretty paintings or fun photos to view in the salon.

·      Fusion touch screen multi zone stereo and new fusion speakers provide clear tunes above and/or below deck.  It can be linked to the TV as well for surround sound.

·      The stability and ease of motion of the boat allowed our daughter to rest comfortably below deck while having all lines lead aft kept us safe on deck when sailing offshore.

·      The reliable low maintenance water maker created enough clean drinkable water so that we never had to worry about hydration, fresh showers, or clean rinses for the dishes.

·      The electric winch paired with the in-boom furling mainsail and roller furled headsails made setting and striking sails very easy.

·      The Gori multi pitch folding propeller increases efficiency while motoring as well as while sailing.  Backing is super easy too as there is no prop walk in reverse. It goes right where you point it which made docking easy for anyone at the helm, including our 10-year-old!

·      We loved that we could access both refrigerator and freezer space from either the top or front door.

·      New clean freshwater push button toilet kept the bathroom smelling fresh and was easy to use for guests.

·      The powerful windlass, heavy chain, and oversized Rocna anchor made anchoring simple and made us feel safe and secure anytime at anchor.  Even in some very windy wavy days and nights.  We also didn’t worry when we left the boat to explore ashore.

·      Having over 200 gallons of diesel aboard meant we could go farther and use the engine more often if we decided to.  We were less dependent on fuel stations that were hard to get to and the fuel quality was suspect.  Our fuel polishing system ensured we never had a single issue with plugged fuel filters.

·      The huge after storage lockers combined with the countless cabinets and areas to store things below kept the living space free from clutter, which felt nice and made entertaining other cruiser fun and easy.  Other cruisers were jealous!

·      The engine is very dependable and always starts right up.  The polished clean fuel and high-quality synthetic oil have kept it running smoothly and cleanly.  There is also plenty of power to push the boat through any wave action or current encountered. The shape of the hull helps too as Kokopelli slices through the waves and keeps her momentum effortlessly.

Sails & Rigging

The deck and sail plan has been extraordinarily well planned for easy and safe sail handling in all conditions by a minimal crew. All reefing and furling can be done from the bank of stoppers adjacent to the electric winch next to the companionway. With the headsail, staysail and drifter all on furlers and the mainsail having in-boom furling, there is virtually never a need to go forward for sailing handling at sea.
