1988/2023 Cape George 38' Cutter

Incredible opportunity! Manu Wai just finished a deck and house refit at the Cape George Marine Works Yard in Port Townsend, WA, where the boat was originally built, and is staying on site and in position for the next owner(s) to work with Cape George to do any other customizations prior to launching, if desired. The Rig has also been redone, now painted white, and is ready to step!

Pictures in the Shop are current. Photos in the water are what the boat looks like rigged. This boat has had many upgrades with the current owner. The boat can be seen at the Cape George Marine Works Yard in Port Townsend, WA.

This gorgeous Cape George 38, Manu Wai (meaning ‘Sea Bird’), was built as Cecil Lange’s personal sailboat. Cecil Lange, a master shipbuilder, and his sons started Cape George Marine Works in the 1970’s building William Atkin designed, blue-water capable, Cape George Sailboats. Manu Wai was built by Cecil Lange as his showroom boat for the company and remains one of the nicest Cape George 38's ever built.

Manu Wai received a Major Refit in 2012-2013 at Cape George Marine Works. The boat has had many upgrades and has been well maintained throughout her lifetime. The Mercedes Benz Diesel Engine was rebuilt in 2003 (Brand New Mercedes Diesel, in the box, also available), New Standing Rigging in 2013, New LED Navigation and Interior Lighting in 2013, New Mast and Boom in 2013, New Bowsprit in 2013, New FRP Decks in 2013, New Bronze Thru-Hulls in 2013, New Mainsail in 2013 and much more (See ‘Specs’ for all the Details)!

This is a great time for a new owner to engage with the boat so they can take advantage of the boat already hauled out at Cape George Marine Works.

Accommodations:

On deck Manu Wai is very well laid out. It’s easy to maneuver from bow to stern with very wide side decks, a flat roofed cabin house and a large comfortable cockpit with cushions and a large Bimini with side-walls. The bright work on the bulwarks was just re-done.

Down below is extremely well laid out and voluminous. The Galley is located to starboard at the bottom of the companionway steps and has a Force 10 LPG Stove and Oven, a Double Stainless Steel Sink with Hot and Cold Pressure Water and has lots of cabinets and drawers for storage. A very large horizontal refrigerator is to port that doubles as a Chart Table. Aft of the Chart Table, on port, is a roomy quarter berth. Forward of the Galley is the Salon that has a single settee to port and a large L-shaped Dinette to starboard with a folding table. There is also a Newport Heater and lots of storage. Forward of the Salon to port is a hanging locker and other cabinets for storage. On starboard is a roomy head, with a Shower, a port light and storage. All the way forward is a large V-berth, storage and a hatch overhead.

Manu Wai is a classic blue-water boat that is gorgeous, solid and sails like a dream!

Showings available by appointment, thank you!
